StudioBook

Momence alternative for US studios

The Momence alternative that doesn't take a cut of your revenue.

Momence's cheaper plans charge a percentage of everything you sell, on top of card processing. StudioBook is $69/month flat — Stripe's rates and nothing else, no matter how much you bill.

Why studios leave Momence

5 reasons studios switch

01

The percentage fee grows with you — the flat fee doesn't

Momence publishes a 5% platform fee on Basic and 2.5% on Pro, charged on what your business sells, and that sits on top of card processing (3.9% + $0.30 for US online payments). The cheaper the plan looks, the more the percentage matters. A studio billing $8,000 a month on Pro pays $60 in software plus roughly $200 in platform fees plus roughly $330 in processing. The plan that removes the platform fee entirely is the $199/month Custom tier — so the way out of the percentage is to pay more than triple the software price.

With StudioBook

$69/month, flat, forever. Zero platform fee at any volume. You pay Stripe's processing rate directly to Stripe — we never take a slice of a booking, a membership, a class pack, or a retail sale.

02

Your revenue is the pricing metric, which means growth is a penalty

Any percentage-of-revenue model means a good month costs you more. Double your bookings and your software bill doubles with them, even though nothing about your use of the software changed. For a studio in growth mode, that's a tax on exactly the thing you're working on — and it makes your software cost impossible to budget for.

With StudioBook

Your bill is $69 whether you take 40 bookings this month or 4,000. Software cost stays a fixed line in your budget while your revenue moves.

03

The free plan is missing the things a real studio runs on

Momence's Basic tier is $0, but its published feature list excludes add-ons, phone support, inbox, retail products, reporting, staff, and locations — while charging the highest percentage fee (5% on business, 4% on client). It's a way to start, not a way to operate. The moment you need staff accounts or reporting you're on a paid tier anyway, and you were paying 5% for the privilege of waiting.

With StudioBook

One plan, everything in it: unlimited classes and members, credit packs, memberships, waitlists, staff accounts, reporting, automated emails, and your public booking page. There is no feature you unlock by upgrading, because there's nothing to upgrade to.

04

Payments route through the platform instead of straight to you

When your members' payments flow through a platform account before reaching you, the platform sits between you and your own cash — controlling timing, holds, and reconciliation. It also means the payment relationship isn't portable: leaving means untangling it.

With StudioBook

Your members pay through your own Stripe account. You are Stripe's customer, not ours — we're never in the money path. If you ever leave StudioBook, your Stripe account, your payment history, and your customer payment methods stay yours.

05

Built to sell software to studios of every shape — not to run a class schedule

Momence spans appointments, classes, retail, marketing automations, and livestream across a wide customer range, with the feature surface split across tiers to match. Breadth has a cost: more configuration to get through before your first class is bookable, and more product you're paying for that a 60-member yoga studio will never open.

With StudioBook

Built for one thing: studios that run scheduled classes. Yoga, pilates, dance, martial arts, music, pottery. You can have your schedule live and taking bookings in about 30 minutes because there's nothing extra to configure past what a class-based studio actually needs.

Do the math on your own numbers

When does a percentage cost more than a flat fee?

The comparison that matters isn't $60 against $69 — it's what each one totals once the percentage is applied to your actual revenue. Momence's Pro tier is $60/month plus a published 2.5% platform fee on business sales. StudioBook is $69/month with no platform fee.

The break-even is straightforward: 2.5% of your monthly revenue has to stay under $9 for Pro to be the cheaper option. That's about $360/month in sales. Above that, the flat fee wins, and the gap widens every month you grow.

Card processing sits on top in both cases, but it isn't equivalent either. Momence publishes 3.9% + $0.30 for US online payments. Stripe's standard published US rate is lower than that, and with StudioBook you pay it to Stripe directly rather than to a platform that marks it up.

A studio billing $8,000/month, on Momence Pro vs StudioBook

  • Momence Pro: $60 software + ~$200 platform fee (2.5%) + ~$330 processing (3.9% + $0.30 on ~100 transactions) ≈ $590/month.
  • StudioBook: $69 software + Stripe's standard processing, billed by Stripe. No platform fee at any revenue.
  • The difference isn't the sticker price: it's that one line scales with your revenue and the other doesn't.
  • Run it on your own numbers: take last month's total sales, multiply by 2.5%, and add $60. That's the comparison.

Where Momence is the better choice

We'll tell you when not to switch

Momence is a capable platform and there are studios it fits better than we do. If you run a large multi-service business — appointments and classes and retail and a full marketing automation stack, across several locations, with staff who each need scoped permissions — Momence's breadth is real and the Custom tier removes the percentage fee that makes the cheaper plans expensive.

If livestream and on-demand video are core to your revenue rather than a side offering, Momence has invested there and we have not.

Where we're the better answer: a studio under roughly 300 members that runs scheduled classes and wants one predictable bill, credit packs and memberships that work properly out of the box, payments landing in its own Stripe account, and a booking page a member can use without creating an account. If that's you, the percentage fee is the only thing you'd be paying extra for.

Switching

How moving off Momence actually goes

You keep taking bookings the whole time. Nothing goes dark, and we do the data work rather than handing you a CSV template.

Step 1

Export and review

Day 1 — about an hour of your time

  • You export your members, class schedule, and outstanding credit balances from Momence
  • We map every field to StudioBook and send you the mapping to check before anything is imported
  • We flag anything ambiguous — expired packs, paused memberships, duplicate member records

Step 2

We build your studio

Days 2–4 — no work for you

  • Members imported with their remaining credits and membership status intact
  • Your recurring class schedule rebuilt, including instructors and capacities
  • Your credit packs and membership products recreated with your current prices
  • Your Stripe account connected — you own it, we just link it
  • Your public booking page styled with your logo and colours

Step 3

Run both, then switch

Days 5–10 — your call on timing

  • You test bookings, payments, and cancellations on a live schedule before telling anyone
  • We check the numbers against Momence together — credits, memberships, upcoming classes
  • You send your members the new booking link when you're satisfied, not before
  • Cancel Momence once your first week on StudioBook has gone through cleanly

Migration is included

We don't charge for the switch

There's no onboarding fee, no implementation package, and no per-hour setup service. Book a call and we'll go through your Momence export together and tell you honestly whether the move is worth it for your numbers.

Questions

Switching from Momence

Is StudioBook actually cheaper than Momence's free plan?

It depends on your revenue. Momence's Basic plan is $0/month but carries a published 5% platform fee on business sales plus 4% charged to clients, on top of 3.9% + $0.30 US card processing. StudioBook is $69/month with no platform fee. If you sell more than about $1,400/month, the 5% alone exceeds StudioBook's monthly price — and that's before the client-side fee. Below that, Basic is cheaper on paper, though it excludes reporting, staff accounts, and locations.

What happens to my members' remaining class credits?

They come across with the correct remaining balance. This is the part of a migration that goes wrong most often, so we check it twice: we reconcile the imported balances against your Momence export and show you the comparison before you switch anyone over. Nobody loses credits they paid for.

Do I have to move my payment processing?

You'll connect a Stripe account, which you own. If you already use Stripe, we connect the existing one. If you don't, setting one up takes about 15 minutes. Your members' saved payment methods on Momence can't be transferred between platforms by anyone — that's a Stripe and card-network rule, not a StudioBook limitation — so members re-enter their card on their first booking. Recurring memberships are the one case that needs care, and we walk you through it on the migration call.

Can my members book without creating an account?

Yes. Your booking page takes a guest booking with a name, an email, and a payment — no account, no app download. Members who want an account to manage their credits and bookings can create one, but it's never required to book.

Does StudioBook do livestream and on-demand video?

No. If streaming classes is a meaningful part of your revenue, Momence is genuinely better for you and we'd rather say so than sell you something that doesn't fit. StudioBook is built for in-person scheduled classes.

Is there a contract or minimum term?

No. Monthly billing, cancel whenever you want, from your settings page. No minimum term, no cancellation fee, and no annual-commitment discount that locks you in.

What does the migration cost?

Nothing. No onboarding fee, no implementation package, no hourly setup service. We do the import and the schedule rebuild as part of getting you started.
